May the best video win

Today, in the digital savvy world, things can change in an instant. What’s trending today could not be trending tomorrow or even an hour from now. That is the power of social media. When it comes to climbing the social media ladder; only a few will come out on top. Most recently, Instagram ( owned by Facebook) has made a counterattack to its competitor Vine (owned by Twitter).

For those of you who don’t know, Vine is a mobile app that enables its users to create and post video clips. However, with a maximum length of six seconds, users must show off their creativity in the short amount of allotted time. On June 8th, (only five days after Vine had opened up the app to all Android users) Vine had surpassed Instagram in the amount of Twitter shares.

This shook up the folks over at Instagram headquarters. On June 20th, Instagram announced to its’ 130 million active daily users that they too would now offer a video feature to their ever so popular app. They released a one minute video showing the world what their newest feature entailed.Introducing Video on Instagram

Coming from an active Instagram AND Vine user, I personally do not think there is much of a difference between the two video sharing apps. Instagram has enabled users to film for 15 seconds versus the six that Vine allows. Instagram has also developed a set of ” filters” users are able to set with their videos. However, the reason Vine will suffer from this new development, is now the 130 million Instagram users can share their videos with their existing follower fan base. Whereas on Vine, users were having to waste time RE-friending and building their following on an entirely different social media.

For a while it seemed Vine was heading in the right direction; they were the only app of their kind. It’s an app eat app world out there. You are only as good as your latest update.

#6 – Facebook Contest
A Facebook contest is a fun way to engage your visitors, gain new “LIKES” and most importantly, gain valuable customer information. The secrets to a successful Facebook contest are; keeping it simple to enter, pick a relevant prize, consider Facebook ads to promote your contest and know the Facebook Contest Guidelines. Violating any of Facebook’s rules will result in your contest, and possibly your page, being shut down, so make sure you familiarize yourself with the Facebook Promotion Guidelines.

Check out these Facebook contest we created for our clients:

This purpose of these contest were to gain new LIKES for our clients Facebook fan page. The Facebook ads were targeted specifically to attract Builders, Realtors, Lenders and homebuyers giving away a $500 gift card to Lowes!

Facebook contest tip: Always create a post about your contest promoting the link to the contest tab, like the example shown above.

#7 – YouTube Video Contest
Create a video campaign requiring the fans to use the name of your product or community in their video. They will have to promote the video to their friends to get votes and the winner can be named the face of your brand! Check out these video campaigns that we created for our clients GTE Federal Credit Union and the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl:

#8 – Foursquare Promotions
With Foursquare you can reward loyal customers and potentially drive new consumers through new promotions. Give the consumer an incentive to make them want to “check-in”. For example, offer incentives to whomever checks-in on your property the most i.e. “Mayor Award”, the Mayor receives a free cupcake every Friday. Here are more fun examples of Foursquare Promotions:

#9 – Twitter and QR Codes Scavenger Hunt
Host a tweet up and invite everyone in your area. Create a QR Code scavenger hunt and ask the participants to retweet what they find! This is a great way to involve the community and connect on your social networks.

#10 – Promote your brand with Video Testimonials
YouTube is a great way to market. Why not have a party? Create an event an invite your realtors, clients and friends and have a videographer onsite to record all the great testimonials! You can offer a prize at the end of the event o get them excited about participating. Check out the fun testimonial video that we created at a midsummer mixer for our client, Beef O’Brady’s Bowl:
